The Irvine Police Department is warning parents about a game that’s popular amongst senior high school students.

The game is called “Senior Assassin.” Teens use water guns or gel guns to hunt down other players either on or off campus and soak them to eliminate them from the game. Ziggy Azarcon, a spokesperson with the Irvine Police Department, told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou the problem is the fake guns used in the game can often look like real firearms.

“Some of the cases that we've seen, some of these seniors are using water guns that are usually bought on the internet,” he said. “And they are very close replicas to real-world firearms, and if you look at it quickly, it can be mistaken for that.”

He explained how people may see students playing the game with their fake guns and mistake them for real ones, which can lead to a dangerous situation.

“We're also encouraging parents to please just talk to your kids about making good decisions,” Azarcon said.

He noted teens need to be careful in where and how they play the game.
