Between Flex alerts and the concern for blackouts due to heat wave, coupled with recently announced energy policies, some wonder - is California's current electric grid strain due, at least in part, to policy failures?
"In areas of California, we actually produce plenty of electricity; the problem is we can't get that energy to the places where we're short," Republican State Senator and gubernatorial candidate Brian Dahle told KNX In Depth.
He added many of the issues stem from the present administration's lack of understanding just how short renewable energy falls in replacing California's current 1.8 billion barrels a day reliance on oil.
"We need balance in our grid, and we need to not shut down natural gas-fired power plants because we have to have those in times of shortage," he said.
Despite all the uncertainty surrounding California's energy future, Senator Dahle says he can make one guarantee.
"If you think your electric bill is high now, it will go up," he said.
