For the last 37 years, the United Methodist Church and Temple Israel of Hollywood have come together on Christmas Day to pass out toys and feed hundreds of people in need of help during the holiday season.
KNX News reporter Emily Valdez spoke to Rabbi Mari Chernow with Temple Israel as families enjoyed a hot meal in the church's auditorium.
"This is the 37th year that our community has been hosting the annual Christmas dinner. We cook meals, we provide toys, we provide clothing and hygiene for anybody who would like to come and partake. We're so happy to offer this to our community, and they have a lot of toys," said Rabbi Chernow.
One Temple Israel member who helped organize the event named Renee said, "Because the Jewish community, we don't necessarily celebrate Christmas, so we wanted to give back on this special day and to reach out to our community members who are either homeless or in need in any way."
They expected to serve about 800 people this year.
