KNX Hero: Checking in with an inspiring grad student quickly moving through the professional ranks!

This time of year, we celebrate lots of graduations and milestones - we check in with a former KNX Hero of the Week who's quickly moving through the college and professional ranks!

When we first met Shant Kevorkian a few years ago, he was still in high school, and we shared his inspiring story of how he was volunteering at the same hospital where he was born as a preemie.

In fact, a few staff members were still there at Adventist Health Glendale working side by side the person they once cared for as a little baby.

Kevorkian is still active in the medical field, but wow, has his career taken flight.

At 21 years old, he just started his master's program for healthcare administration at USC as a Dean's Merit Scholar.

"So I graduated in 2024 from California State University in Northbridge with my bachelor's in Healthcare Administration," he told Heroes host Heather Jordan. "I was very lucky to be able to complete that in 3 years and then move on to my master's immediately after."

Kevorkian has stayed extremely busy outside of his studies, volunteering and working full-time at Kaiser Permanente.

He founded the Glendale Unified School District Alumni Association and was appointed to the City of Glendale Parks Rec and Community Services Commission.

Kevorkian even ran for a seat on the Glendale Unified School Board of Education.

"Experiencing public service, you know, keeps me going to be able to be out there to give back and always keep that volunteer piece in my heart," he said. "Though I didn't win, I got appointed to our bond oversight committee at the school district. I'm on the board of directors for our Glendale Educational Foundation, and I'm also on the board of directors for a character and ethics project in Glendale."

He now works at Children's Hospital Los Angeles while continuing his studies. Kevorkian plans to stay in healthcare, and who knows, he might lead a major health system one day.

"You know, I've always loved to give back," Kevorkian said. "I've always loved to be a part of many different things because I think having your plate full and being involved in different organizations and giving, I think that's what kind of keeps your soul going, you know, it gives you a sense of purpose."

21-year-old Shant Kevorkian is inspiring us all.
