Our KNX Hero of the Week, Camille Wright, is a full-spectrum doula who goes above and beyond to make sure moms are healthy and well after giving birth.
Camille said her favorite moment is seeing the family's reaction right after the baby arrives.
“Seeing their tears, their joy, seeing the skin-to-skin and how they're completely just overwhelmed with so much love and so much happiness for this moment, there's nothing like witnessing that over and over again,” she told Heroes host Heather Jordan. “I can never get over it.”
Camille is a member of the Happy Baby Journey’s doula collective group. She also volunteers for a group called 4th Trimester, which focuses on postpartum care, from hands-on physical attention to clothes and supplies to advice on the changing life.
“They have these incredible events where different families, they're able to bring even their children with them, and they can kind of do like shopping around in our care closet,” she said. “They're able to get a bunch of postpartum supplies, donated baby clothes of a bunch of different ages, even donated pregnancy clothes, and they're able to meet other mommies and dads and other babies. It's so, so incredible.”
She also said there’s help available beyond taking care of the baby.
“If you need a massage, we can help you with different teas,” she said. “There's lactation help, helping you feel confident in yourself again. It's never just a one-size-fits-all for postpartum care because everybody is so different. So meeting mothers and parents where they are, so that they're able to be their strong selves and be the parent that they actually want to be.”
