Going above and beyond to save someone's life is true hero behavior, and that is precisely what Jack Hibard did while working security at a local office building when he found a woman unresponsive.
Hibard told KNX Heroes producer Heather Jordan the woman wasn't breathing, and her lips were turning blue, "So I went into CPR to start doing compressions. About 10-15 compressions in, she took a big deep breath, and I was like, OK, she's coming back."

To prevent choking, Hibard put the woman into recovery position, but she stopped breathing again, and he had to act fast, "So I put her back on her back. I told my partner to give me my protective mask. We opened it up, and it was broken," he said.
Hibard asked for his partner's CPR mask, but it was broken too, "I had no choice but to try my best to create a seal with my hand," but as he recalls, he could not make sufficient contact.
From there, Hibard had to make a judgment call, "I just told myself, I'm not gonna let someone pass away because of a little bit of mouth-to-mouth."
So, Hibard gave her two deep breaths, continued with compressions, and about four compressions in, "She took a deep breath again."
In that moment, Hibard said he saw his grandmother's face, which gave him the strength to keep working on the woman for about 15 minutes until the fire department arrived.
Firefighters said he likely saved the woman's life, and if not for a delay in his trip to help Maui wildfire recovery efforts, Hibard would not have been there - talk about right place right time!
