KNX Hero: Local trauma surgeon honored for outreach, volunteerism!

Doctor Damon Clark is a trauma surgeon with Keck Medicine of USC and he's positively changing our community through leadership and inspiration.

He helps with the Stop the Bleed training program, which teaches young people wound treatment and founded the Surgeon for a Day program, which provides students from under-resourced schools with hands-on experience in surgery and medicine. But one of Dr. Clark's most impactful outreach programs is his free tattoo removal service.

He works with the nonprofit Soledad Enrichment Action and helps people with a negative past turn towards a positive future.

Whether looking to erase the memory of time spent in a gang or to remove the physical reminder of a traumatic experience, Dr. Clark tells Hero Host Heather Jordan, "Everybody has a deep and personal story and a reason for getting them removed. So why not help and provide that."

"I grew up like a lot of these folks in Detroit in a not so nice and kind and safe environment, and I watched a lot of family members, friends go through these experiences. Hopefully some good folks can hear this and it can make a difference," said the doctor.

Dr. Clark was also recently presented with the American College of Surgeons Annual Surgical Volunteerism Award, which honors surgeons who go above and beyond their surgical practices and make exceptional contributions to the community.

For his efforts to help rebuild lives both inside and outside of the surgery room, Doctor Damon Clark is our KNX Hero of the Week!
