Our KNX Hero of the Week Karin Foreman is leading outreach all across Southern California.
In 2016, Karin started the BE Helping Hands Ministry. Now, they're helping those all over Southern California.
“We go to Skid Row, we help nursing homes, we distribute clothing, shoes, nutritional bars, toiletry bags, and we just pass them out for people that need this stuff,” Karin told Heroes host Heather Jordan.
This past month, they handed out free backpacks full of school supplies to families who needed a little extra help.
“You know, it's mostly clothes, shoes, socks,” Karin said. “We have nutritional bars, and I get things from a company that liquidates, and so we get a lot of cool stuff from them, and there's about 400 people that go through it. It's super easy. You just show up, you volunteer, and you have a great time there.”
Karin said she welcomes people to join them and says it's not hard to get started when it comes to outreach. She says she and her daughter, Moriah, got started by handing out lunches.
“I absolutely love it because I get to see firsthand the appreciation of the people I get to hear about their stories, and it just makes you feel good,” she said. “Overall, it's just the thing that you want to leave the world a better place, and it's universal that people want to help each other and share what we have.”
The next BE Helping Hands distribution on Skid Row is coming up on October 25th. They will also have distributions on November 15th and December 13th.
