KNX Heroes: 2 L.A. City Rec and Parks employees save a life, while on the job!

Going above and beyond is a phrase we use when a person does more than what they are expected or required to do. This is exactly what Jeremy Aldridge and Daniel Maciel did while working one evening at the Lanark Recreation Center.

Aldridge told Heroes Host Heather Jordan it happened on the first day of their flag football season back in October.

At about 10:30 at night, a man ran into the doors at the center and collapsed on the floor.

"We just heard the impact and then we went out to render aid. He was unconscious, pupils were fully dilated and he wasn't breathing. It just immediately appeared like it might be an OD," Aldridge said.

He quickly grabbed a dose of Narcan, gave it to Maciel to administer, and called 911. In approximately 15 seconds, Aldridge said, the man 'snapped back' to consciousness.

Aldridge is a senior director and says this is his second time using Narcan to save a person's life, but for Maciel, it was a new experience.

"This is the first time where somebody is potentially gonna leave the earth, and I'm right there on hands and knees trying to get this person to come back. So it was kind of a scary moment, but I was able to keep my composure and immediately react."

The responding paramedics thanked the duo for their quick action, which the heroes in Canoga Park attribute to proper training and the availability of Narcan.
