Every little bit counts! Meet Cheryl and Craig Matheny of Anaheim, our KNX Heroes of the Week, who are helping build stable foundations for people all over the world through charitable donations.

Both born and raised in Southern California, Cheryl and Craig are the makers of LazerModels, a wooden model crafting kit, and The Solid Mount grab bar. Every month, they donate a large portion of their business’ profits to help people recover from tragedy.

“We don’t look at it as our money, we look at it as God’s money,” Cheryl told KNX Heroes host Heather Jordan.

For the past two years, they’ve been giving to ShelterBox, a nonprofit that provides emergency shelter, tools, and household supplies to displaced families after disasters.

After last month’s wildfires in Los Angeles, ShelterBox provided hundreds of solar lights to help residents during power outages, along with high-thermal blankets, personal bags, and cook sets to families in need.

“We're really touched and moved by all that they're able to provide, and as a mom and as a grandmother, that really touched me,” Cheryl said.

Due to the recent changes with the U.S. government’s humanitarian aid, organizations like ShelterBox are more vital than ever before. The Mathenys say that whatever amount you’re able to give could make a difference.

“If everybody that could just give a dollar, just a simple dollar a month to some of these organizations – we're talking how many adults are there in the United States that could help,” Craig said. “It doesn't take a lot from everybody. It takes a little from everyone.”
