KNX News reporter Pete Demetriou received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Radio & Television News Association.

Demetriou has been a fixture on Los Angeles radio for decades, covering major events from the OJ Simpson chase to the recent wildfires. He spoke to Mike Simpson and Vicky Moore about what it’s like looking back on his career.

“When people ask me, what do I do? And my answer is, I'm writing the first rough draft of history every day,” he said. “I don't know what's going to happen, and that's part of the reason why I have so much energy going in and out. I have no idea what is going to happen in the next 1 hour, two hours, heck, the next 30 seconds.”

He said that to avoid becoming mentally exhuasted by the work, it’s important to have fun and find something that makes you smile or laugh.

“They say, well, how do you continue to do this? And you say you have an advanced degree in life. It's very simple: BTDT, SWU, SGP, NSD,” he said. “Been there, done that. Still walking upright. Still getting paid. No sign of dementia.”
