The Los Angeles City Council Tuesday confirmed two new members to the City Planning Commission, which advises city officials on land use policies and development projects.

In an 11-0 vote, council members approved Mayor Karen Bass' appointees Sarah Johnson, executive director of Pathway to Wednesday, and Priscilla Chavez, business development manager for PCL Construction Services. Both will serve terms through June 30, 2030.

Johnson succeeds Commissioner Karen Mack, while Chavez replaces Commissioner Maria Cabildo.

They join commissioners Jacob Saitman, Phyllis Klein, Brian Rosenstein, Monique Lawshe, Martina Diaz, Elizabeth Zamora and Caroline Choe on the nine-member panel.

Commissioners are volunteers appointed by the mayor.

Johnson previously worked as a project manager for Global Planning Insights from 2014 to 2023. She earned a master's degree in public administration from Columbia University and a bachelor's degree in business administration from Loyola Marymount University.

Chavez previously served as outreach director for DCS & Associates from 2007 to 2016. She studied at Cal State Los Angeles and completed an executive master compliance administrator certification from Morgan State University in 2019.

Council members Bob Blumenfield, Ysabel Jurado, Nithya Raman and Katy Yaroslavsky were absent during the vote.
