LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The Los Angeles City Council will vote Wednesday on ending the city’s mandate requiring proof of vaccination to enter most indoor businesses and participate in large-scale outdoor events.

The mandate, which went into effect in November, required people older than 12 to show proof of vaccination before entering restaurants, gyms, entertainment venues, personal care establishments, some city buildings, and other indoor spaces. It also required attendees to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to participate in outdoor events with 5,000 people or more.

The motion set to be considered Wednesday was introduced by Council President Nury Martinez. It called for rolling back city requirements, though it would allow businesses to voluntarily require proof of vaccination from patrons on an individual basis.

If Martinez’s motion is passed by the full council, City Attorney Mike Feuer will be instructed to prepare a new ordinance, which will cycle back to the council for a final vote.

L.A. County dropped its requirement that people show proof of vaccination to enter indoor parts of abrs, nightclubs, and other nightlife venues, as well as large outdoor events. But those attending indoor events of 1,000 or more people are still required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a recent negative test.
