Los Angeles firefighters battled a fire affecting multiple buildings in the Gardena-Carson area Thursday for more than eight hours before gaining control of the blaze. Three firefighters were injured at the scene with one hospitalized, according to the fire department.

Sean Ferguson, an L.A. County fire inspector, told KTLA the firefighters' injuries were minor. Two of the injured were treated on the scene and then returned to battling the multi-building fire.

L.A. County Fire Department reported the blaze at 2:43 p.m., with flames emitting from the rear of the building on S. Avalon Boulevard. It was then upgraded to a second-alarm fire and then upgraded a few minutes later to a three-alarm fire.

Buildings nearby were evacuated, according to the sheriff's department.

CBS LA reported that the fire took place in a pallet yard. The fire started burning in several pallets before it spread to the building, according to the department.

Officials said bottles of "rubbing alcohol" helped to fuel the blaze.

CNS reported the L.A. Fire Department has deployed a task force consisting of 12 personnel and one battalion chief to help Los Angeles County Fire Department units with the fire.

As of 3:30 p.m., 75 firefighters were on the scene. The number increased to 200 before 5 p.m.
