L.A. County identifies top 10 COVID hot spots

LOS ANGELES COUNTY (KNX) — L.A. County health officials identified the top 10 communities with the highest coronavirus infection rates during its public briefing Thursday.

Lancaster and Palmdale top the list, which also includes Santa Clarita, Studio City, and West Hills.

“The average ages were very low in all of these communities,” said L.A. County public health director Barbara Ferrer. “This is essentially a pandemic that is in fact fueled by younger people. The median age is between 26 and 36.”

Intermingling socially and at work has driven the case increase among the demographic, Ferrer added.

Several of the communities have high vaccination rates. More than three-fourths of residents in Studio City, Santa Clarita, and Venice are fully vaccinated. Lancaster and Willowbrook had the lowest vaccination rates.
