Los Angeles County is opening its public housing waitlist for the first time since 2024.
The waiting list is open at all of the county's 16 public housing sites, 10 of which are for people 62 and over.
“Many of our seniors here in Los Angeles County have Social Security as their primary and only source of income, and when you think about what Social Security provides versus what a monthly rent is here in L.A. County, in many instances it takes up a lion's share, if not all, of that Social Security income,” Emilio Salas, the Executive Director of the Los Angeles County Development Authority, told KNX News’ Karen Adams.
He said people earning $58,000 a year or less, or $83,000 for families of four, could qualify, and you can apply to be on the waitlist at more than one community.
“But we do ask that they only place their name on the list that they are interested in because once they are made an offer at a particular site, if they reject that offer, they will be removed from all of the lists,” Salas said.
The waitlist application closes September 16th.
