L.A. County Supervisors are delaying a law that expands who can be held against their will for mental health reasons.

Supervisor Janice Hahn was the lone “no” vote opposing the delay.

“I share those who were behind this that it does have the potential to save lives, and I know you all agree with that as well,” she said. “And I sit here today and am worried about the consequences of delaying this for two years.”

Those who voted “yes” to delay the implementation of this law are Hilda Solis, Holly Mitchell, Lindsey Horvath, and Kathryn Barger.

The state’s new CARE Court program, meant to offer mental health treatment for people with psychotic disorders, is facing a similar lack of resources and preparation in Orange County. The program launched two months ago, but nobody has been able to receive services, according to O.C. Health Care Agency head Veronica Kelley.
