L.A. County temporarily evacuates two juvenile probation camps

LA VERNE, Calif. (KNX) — High weekend winds proved destructive for two Los Angeles probation camps, leading to evacuations Monday.

The Los Angeles County Probation Department voluntarily evacuated Camp Joseph Paige and Camp Afflerbaugh in La Verne, Calif., temporarily moving 28 minors from Camp Paige and nine minors from Camp Afflerbaugh to Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall in Sylmar, Calif.

The youths will remain there for the week, while “minor damages sustained at the camps due to heavy winds” are assessed, according to the LACPD.

“The facilities are currently being evaluated for damage and repairs should be completed by next week,” LACPD said. “All parents and guardians have been notified.”
