South L.A. home invasion leaves 3 suspects arrested, 1 in critical condition

At approximately 12:00 PM Friday, a 911 call came from a man inside a home about three blocks away from LAPD Newton Division Station, saying a number of men were breaking into his house.

Officers quickly surrounded the house under suspicion that the suspects were armed with a handgun and demanded they exit the home.

Two men came out and were arrested immediately, but there were two more inside.

One of them jumped out armed with a large hammer, and an LAPD officer opened fire, hitting him. He was taken to a local hospital and is currently in critical condition.

The officers called in the K9 unit, who managed to find the fourth man who surrendered without incident.

The victim, though roughed up and a little shaken, is said to be all right, and the suspects apparently didn't get anything from his home.

The four suspects are looking at charges that may include home invasion, robbery, and assault against the victim.
