The Los Angeles Metro launched its new ‘TAP to exit’ pilot program at the North Hollywood B Line Station.
As part of the program, riders will now have to tap their cards at the beginning of their trip and again at the end to confirm payment. The gates will automatically open when people tap out with their cards.
Riders who don’t pay will be cited or removed.
Metro officials said most of the suspects behind the recent violent attacks didn’t pay to get on the buses or trains. Local authorities are hoping this new program will increase safety on the Metro.
This comes after a driver was stabbed Monday night at a bus stop near West Olympic Ave. and South La Brea Blvd. Another driver was attacked Monday morning on Spring St., just south of Temple St.

There are ambassadors, transit security, and blue-shirt workers who can help with the ticket vending machines at the North Hollywood station.
The pilot program is expected to last several months.
