Some Los Angeles residents may have been rocked awake by thunder this morning, with some reported lightning strikes near the beaches in San Pedro and Torrance.
The early-morning thunderstorms are due to monsoonal moisture moving into the area. National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Sirard told KNX News it impacted areas near the coast this morning, but the rest of Southern California may see storms later today.
“With the heating of the day, we are expecting some thunderstorms to develop over the mountains and drift off into the Antelope Valley as well. So there is a chance of some locally heavy rain, possibly some small hail, that sort of thing,” he said.
He adds the weather will dry up tomorrow, but says a tropical cyclone forming off the coast of Mexico could bring some heavy rain late on Sunday and into Monday.
