Responding officers found a man down, struck by deputy gunfire. The man was taken to a local hospital and his condition was unknown.

No deputies were injured.

Lt. Charles Calderero of the LASD’s homicide division told NBC L.A. the shooting happened as deputies attempted to serve a search warrant and arrest warrant to a 23-year-old man inside a home. The man was in the home with others at the time of the shooting, authorities said.

The suspect was wanted in an assault with a deadly weapon incident, according to Calderero. The warrant was served out of the LASD Norwalk station.

“During the execution of the search warrant, after the SWAT deputies advised their presence, the individuals inside did not open the door,'' Calderaro said, according to City News Service. “Forced entry was made. When the deputies made entry into the residence, an individual produced a handgun, pointed it at the deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.”

Shoemaker Avenue is expected to be closed from Sunshine Avenue to Imperial Highway for the duration of the investigation, up to 4 p.m. Wednesday, according to NBC.
