As the news of President Joe Biden dropping his bid for reelection in the 2024 Presidential race circulates, Los Angeles Democrats are sharing their thoughts.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener how Biden’s announcement didn’t come as a surprise.

“I would have supported him all the way through November. But it seemed to me that the growing calls from within his own party for him to step down were just getting louder and weren't going away. So, I felt like we were gonna have a decision by this weekend,” Hahn said.

She explained she was one of the politicians who endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president when she was in the 2020 race against Joe Biden.

“She's proven herself over and over again. First as our own attorney general here in California, and then as a very competent United States Senator. So, she's got what it takes,” Hahn explained.

Hahn thinks the more interesting discussion now is finding out who will be the Vice President to join this race with Harris.

“The first thing I thought about was a Harris-Buttigieg ticket. You know, we're passing the torch to a new generation,” she said. “We're talking about a new generation, we're talking about trying to young voters to be more inclusive in our party. I think that Harris Buttigieg ticket would be phenomenal.”

Hahn said she also hears people talking about Gretchen Whitmer as a potential Vice President pick for Harris.

“I think either way what gives the Democrats now the option to just begin focusing on the issues, I think it's important because certainly it's been a distraction to keep defending Joe Biden,” she explained.

Hahn believes it was difficult for Biden to make his decision to drop his bid for reelection. However, she noted how difficult it can be for someone to campaign for a position in office.

Hahn has no doubt Harris has what it takes to be an effective campaigner and she believes Harris can win the November election against former President Donald Trump.
