LOS ANGELES (KNX) – The latest addition to the Los Angeles Zoo is already making history!
The zoo announced its Masai giraffes, Zainabu and Phillip, welcomed a male calf on April 8.

The new calf, who hasn’t been named yet, is 6’7, making this the tallest giraffe calf in the zoo’s history.
"Every giraffe birth we have at the L.A. Zoo is exciting,” said Mike Bona, an animal keeper at the zoo. “I’ve worked with giraffes here since 2005, and I have to say, Zainabu is a wonderful mother – she knew exactly what she needed to do when her labor started. I am thrilled that we have this new calf to represent his endangered species.”
The new calf is Zainabu’s fourth calf and Phillip’s sixth calf.
