LOS ANGELES (KNX) – Los Angeles City Council will vote on a resolution that enacts a city municipal code in two areas of Woodland Hills.
Councilman Bob Blumenfield is asking to expand a city municipal code in two Woodland Hills areas that he says are home to dangerous encampments.
He told KNX News he wants permission to enforce L.A. City municipal code 4118, which states encampments, camping, and sleeping on public sidewalks are against the law, on Alhama Drive and Comercio Way.
“So in this case, you know, that particular encampment has just risen, the crime level has risen to a level where it needs to be addressed and can be addressed by the 4118 designation,” he said.
He also cited a recent incident.
“Someone was stabbed in the face with a screwdriver,” he said. “That particular strip needs to be off-limits to encampments.
He also told KNX News the 4118 code is a “necessary tool.”
“...the police have done what they can, but really what needs to be done is that particular strip which has become a magnet for crime needs to be off limits to it again,” he said.
The vote will take place on Wednesday.
