KNX News reporter Nataly Tavidian spoke with Mark Pestrella, Director of LADPW who said, "We've been after this for some time and actually done a great job through many years of improving and optimizing the flood control system to capture this water."
Pestrella said since October, they'd captured around 5 billion gallons of stormwater, enough to serve 121,000 people for a year.
In the last week, they have collected 717 million gallons, and even though it's less than average for this time of year, "It's a significant amount of water with a lot more of the season to go," Pestrella said.
Public works says hundreds of people are working this storm to prevent flooding and ensure the roads stay safe.
