LADOT cuts could impact traffic safety, GM warns

The general manager of the Los Angeles Department of Transportation is raising concerns about proposed cuts to the agency’s budget.

With the city facing a nearly $1 billion deficit, Mayor Karen Bass’ budget proposal slashes funding for the DOT by $7 million.

In a memo to Councilmember Katy Young Yaroslavsky, who chairs the budget and finance committee, General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo said the cuts would eliminate nearly 25% of the agency’s workforce.

Rubio-Cornejo said the layoffs would affect parking enforcement, traffic signal updates, pothole repairs, traffic safety goals, and rail and bus lane projects ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
