LOS ANGELES (KNX) – In an effort to combat drought, Mayor Eric Garcetti and the Los Angeles Department of Water announced Tuesday that the city is cutting outdoor watering down to two days a week for LADWP customers.

“While the reduction in outdoor watering is important, it’s just one piece of our larger conservation effort – so if we want our children and grandchildren to be able to turn to the tap with confidence, we need to double down on the solutions that have made conservation a way of life in L.A.,” Mayor Garcetti said during the news conference in Eagle Rock.
The restrictions will take place June 1.
Under the new restrictions, residents will be given two days a week for outdoor watering. Residents who live at odd-numbered street addresses will have Mondays and Fridays, while even-numbered addresses will have Thursdays and Sundays.
Watering times will be limited to eight minutes. Those who violate the restrictions will receive a warning and then be fined for continuous violations.
“In selecting the option offered by MWD to go on a water budget, we believe we can manage our system to meet the limitations in water delivery by MWD by going to two-days-a-week watering, while giving customers recognition for the significant conservation efforts they have already made for over a decade,” said LADWP General Manager and Chief Engineer Martin Adams.
These restrictions come a couple weeks after the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California ordered that outdoor watering be limited to one day a week for those who live in Los Angeles, Ventura and San Bernardino counties.”
