The Los Angeles City Fire Department announced it is officially adopting the app what3words into its system in order to find callers quickly during an emergency.
The department says it will put the site into its Computer Aided Dispatch System, which will allow them to find where the caller’s location is even if there’s no associated address. The location will then be shared with the responding resources, giving officials enough time to get to the exact location.
The app can also allow the caller to give the dispatcher the three-word address if the caller sees a physical sign with the what3words location on it, allowing the dispatcher to verify the location.
The app is free for iOS and Android users.
