LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The Los Angeles Fire Department is paving the way for electric machinery in North America, with an electric fire engine at its Hollywood Station.
LAFD will be the first fire department to get an electric fire engine in North America, with a target date for the first quarter of this year. The vehicle will be housed in the department’s Hollywood station.

“This will be the future of firefighting,” Assistant Chief Wade White with the Los Angeles Fire Department told the San Bernardino Sun.
Rancho Cucamonga is next in line for an electric fire engine, aiming to house theirs in an all-new fire station set to open in 2023, according to the publication.
The fire engines will be made by Austrian manufacturer Rosenbauer and will be the first engines to incorporate an all-electric drivetrain, and a small diesel engine, just in case, according to the Sun.
The cost of the fire engine runs around $900,000, but add ons desired by the two Southern California fire agencies puts the price of the engines at just under $1.3 million each, the newspaper reports.
