Andrew Dowd, spokesperson for the Ventura County Fire Department, told KNX News that the flames were going at a rapid rate of speed.
“The fire is in medium to medium fuels,” he said. “We have approximately 75 to 100 firefighters currently assigned to the firefighter to the firefight, as well as air resources that are actively dropping water here. We also have established a structure group here at Channel Islands to evaluate and mitigate any potential threats to those structures.”
Ventura City Fire, Oxnard Fire, and Federal Fire Ventura County also responded to the blaze.
An evacuation order was issued for California State University Channel Islands and University Glen, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department.
Potrero Road and Lewis Road are closed.
This is a developing story.
