The husband of a missing Lancaster mother who was found dead in the Angeles National Forest fled to Peru with the couple’s three kids.

The body of 33-year-old Sheylla Cabreras was found on Aug. 16, days after she was reported missing, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. That same day, the couple’s children were found in Peru and taken into protective custody. They’re now in the care of the wife’s parents.

Lieutenant Michael Modica told KNX News’ Karen Adams that they were brought in after Jossima Cabrera, Sheylla’s husband, was captured on a surveillance camera, dragging what's suspected to be Sheylla’s body in a large piece of fabric outside their apartment building.

“I can say [the fabric] was consistent, both what she was being drug in and then what she was found in in the Angeles National Forest appeared to be the same,” he said.

Modica said the department has been in contact with the Peruvian general consulate and the Peruvian authorities.

Jossima was questioned by Peruvian police before Sheylla’s body was found and then released.

Homicide detectives plan to turn over the case to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office.
