A border crossing between the U.S. and Canada was closed after a vehicle exploded at a checkpoint near Niagara Falls Wednesday, leaving two people in the car dead.

No information is available on the cause of the explosion. Witnesses say the car swerved to avoid another car, crashed into a fence, and went up in flames. The FBI is investigating the incident.

Although there’s currently no evidence that the crash was intentional, Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said the department’s “ears are up” in case a similar incident happens here.

“We know, as we enter the Thanksgiving holiday season, that we have no specific credible threat to the L.A. region,” he told KNX News’ Charles Feldman.

Moore said the LAPD and L.A. County Sheriff’s Department are keeping an eye on the situation, as well as communicating with federal and state intelligence agencies.
