The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a “swatting” incident that took place early Thursday morning that targeted Black Lives Matter L.A. co-founder and prominent Los Angeles activist, Melina Abdullah.

Officials said around 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a radio call of a possible attempted suicide at a home in the Wilshire division. According to CBS Los Angeles, someone who pretended to be Abdullah's son told officers she had overdosed on pills.

Officers said they found there was no issue at the home.

Authorities said the call was most likely a “swatting” incident. “Swatting” refers to someone placing a false emergency call for help.

Earlier this week Melina Abdullah, filed a lawsuit against the department and the city following a swatting incident that took place at her residence in August 2020.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.

Anyone with information is urged to call Major Crimes Division at (213) 486-7280.
