On Thursday, a jury found that the Los Angeles Police Department officer who fired his gun, accidentally killing a teenage girl who was in a dressing room, is not liable for her death.
The shooting happened Dec. 23, 2021 at the Burlington Store on Victory Blvd. in North Hollywood. Police went to the store to confront a man acting erratically, holding a bike lock. When officers arrived, the man had already attacked two women.
While this was happening, Valentina Orellana-Peralta was with her mother in the dressing room when she was fatally shot by a bullet that went through the dressing room wall.
The family sought $100 million in damages.
