LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The Los Angeles Police Department released footage Monday documenting a police shooting inside a North Hollywood Burlington store last week that resulted in the death of a 14-year-old girl.
"We at the LAPD would like to express our most heartfelt condolences and profound regret for this innocent victim, Valentina Orianna Peralta," the LAPD said in the newly released video. "There are no words to describe the depth of the sorrow we feel for this tragic outcome."

On Dec. 23, police responded to a report of a man assaulting a woman at the North Hollywood store, and that the suspect may have been an active shooter. Upon arrival, officers found a woman badly beaten and bleeding on the floor.
Surveillance footage from the store released by the LAPD showed the suspect behaving violently, striking objects with a bike lock before attacking the woman.
Investigators said one LAPD officer fired three shots at the 24-year-old North Hollywood man, later identified as Daniel Elena Lopez. Police later said he was not in fact armed.
Peralta was killed when one of the officer's bullets went through a wall into a dressing room where she was with her mother trying on a dress for her quinceañera.
The officer who fired the shots was placed on administrative leave, according to the LAPD, and the investigation into the shooting was being handled by the California Department of Justice.
