Officers will be looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, including marijuana, some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs that could impair driving.

A first-time DUI charge could cost drivers about $13,500 in fines and penalties, and impaired drivers could also have their license suspended.

The checkpoints were scheduled for:

-- Thursday, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the Northeast area;

-- Friday, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.: at Glenoaks Boulevard and Truesdale Street; at Florence and La Salle avenues; and at Sunset Boulevard and Orange Grove Avenue;

-- Saturday, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Western Avenue and Sixth Street.

Additionally, DUI saturation patrols will be deployed Sunday between noon and 8 p.m. in the North Hollywood and Topanga areas.
