LAPD to conduct DUI patrols, checkpoints through Monday

The Los Angeles Police Department will conduct DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols in different areas of the city from Thursday through Monday, the department announced Wednesday.

Officers will be looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, including marijuana, some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs that could impair driving.

A first-time DUI charge could cost drivers about $13,500 in fines and penalties, and impaired drivers could also have their license suspended.

The DUI patrols will be deployed at the following locations between 6 and 11 p.m.:

-- at Sunset Boulevard and Coronado Street on Thursday;

-- at Parthenia Street and Wilbur Avenue, and at Pacific Avenue and 1st Street on Friday;

-- at Osborne Street and Golden State Freeway on Saturday;

-- at Figueroa Street and 75th Street on Sunday; and

-- at Sherman Way and Independence Avenue on Monday.

Additionally, DUI Saturation patrols were scheduled at the following times and locations:

-- Thursday between 3 and 11 p.m. in the Hollywood area;

-- Sunday between noon and 8 p.m. in the Foothill area; and

-- Monday between 3 and 11 p.m. in the Central area.
