The LAPD is increasing its presence at the Universal City Metro station where a woman was stabbed to death on Monday.

LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar told KNX News’ Margaret Carrero this means travelers should expect to see more officers in the area.

“So what it should look like is an increased presence of LAPD officers on trains on platforms and in the area,” she said. “Some of these stations have small parking lots adjacent, some have larger parking lots adjacent.”

She added that the LAPD and Metro need to work together to make public transportation safe.

The victim, 67-year-old Mirna Soza, was on her way home from her overnight job when she was stabbed, according to Detective Aguilar.

Soza’s family told the Los Angeles Times they began to worry when she didn’t come home from her shift at Original Tommy’s. They called her manager who said she’d left after her shift ended around 3 or 4 a.m.

Hours later, they received a call from the LAPD detective who had Soza’s phone.

“Nobody imagines something like that is going to happen to you. It’s a nightmare, something unreal,” her daughter, Mirna Roman Soza told the newspaper.

A half-an-hour after Soza was killed, police arrested Elliot Tramel Nowden, 45. Nowden is being held on $2 million bail.

A GoFundMe to bring Soza’s body back to Nicaragua was established.
