L.A. County Sheriff's deputies rescued several people from a boat that crashed into the rocks outside the Marina Del Rey, approximately 20 to 30 yards from the break wall.
Five people were on the boat Wednesday night, including a nine-year-old boy. KNX News' Emily Valdez reports, one man was tossed overboard.
L.A. County Sheriff Sergeant Ronald Nohles was one of the deputies on the rescue boat. He said the people called out in Mayday first saying they were going to hit the rocks, then saying they hit the rocks, then saying they had a man overboard.
The deputy operating the rescue boat said, "You can tell the passengers and the captain as well on the boat on the rocks. He was; he sounded like he was in distress."
They were able to hoist the individual in the water onto the rescue boat, and although the crashed boat tilted at a 90-degree angle, they were able to tow it off the rocks.
Deputies believe the group was attempting to retrieve lobster traps but could not maneuver between the closely placed traps, and their propellor got wrapped up in the lines.
Thankfully, no one was injured.
