An L.A. County Sheriff's Department K-9, affectionately known as "Kid," is on the mend after being shot during the pursuit of an armed suspect.
While Special Enforcement Bureau deputies were helping deputies in Compton search for an armed suspect who had threatened someone with a handgun last week, K-9 Kjeld, also known as 'Kid', detected the suspect under a tarp.
As KNX News' Margaret Carrero reports, unfortunately, that's when the shooting took place.
Deputy Stephen Williams, K-9 Kid's handler, said thankfully the dog's ballistic vest took the brunt of the bullet.

Williams said it was a relief to learn the injuries were superficial, and now, "[Kid] is ready to go. I think, if I let him, he'd go back to work today."
He says, who knows how many lives Kjeld saved that night.
