The Los Angeles Unified School District’s Board of Education is set to meet on Thursday to discuss the future of Superintendent Alberto Carvalho, one day after FBI raids at his home and at the district's headquarters.
It’s still unclear why the raids happened; however, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times it appeared to be tied to an AI chatbot company the district hired in 2024.
It was called “Ed” and it was supposed to be a personal assistant, but it was never implemented.
The U.S. Attorney's Office confirmed that a property in Miami, where Carvalho also worked, was searched as well.
The district says it's cooperating with the investigation.
Carvalho has been superintendent of LAUSD since February 2022. He previously served as superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools in Florida for 14 years.
