Long Beach police officer shoots suspect armed with pellet gun

A Long Beach Police officer Thursday shot at an uncooperative suspect armed with a pellet gun, who immediately surrendered.

Around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, police received reports of a person in possession of a gun in a motel, in the 5500 block of Atlantic Avenue, near 55th Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.


"Upon arrival, officers contacted the suspect who was in possession of what appeared to be a firearm outside of the business. Officers directed the suspect to drop the firearm. An officer discharged their service weapon," LBPD said.

The uninjured suspect then surrendered and was taken into custody. A pellet gun was recovered from the scene.

LBPD was in the process of reviewing body-cam footage, and will make it available to the public pursuant to state legislation.
