LONG BEACH, Calif. (KNX) - Street vendors could soon be banned from setting up shop in some of Long Beach's most popular areas.
The Long Beach City Council is considering changes to regulations that would limit where vendors can operate. The proposed changes come after two state bills decriminalized sidewalk vending, allowing cities to regulate the previously-illegal practice.
The recommendations are a culmination of surveys, data, and best practices from other cities. If accepted, they would prohibit vendors from setting up in the parking lots of public parks — including popular locations like Junipero Beach, according to the Long Beach Post.
The proposed regulations would also ban vendors from various city properties, and require vendors to stay at least 500 feet from city-contracted concession stands, among other new restrictions.
The Long Beach City Council will review the report at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16.
