Long Beach Symphony is bringing its Instrument Petting Zoo to over 17 locations across the city and other parts of Southern California this summer.
Kelly Ruggirello, president of Long Beach Symphony, told KNX News’ Margaret Carrero it’s a way to introduce instruments to children.
“It's run by volunteers and music students,” she said. “So we're able to have people who actually know how to play the instruments, demonstrate them, and then get those instruments as fast as possible into the hands of the children.”
She said parents also get excited about the events.
“We also give the parents some information about where to go to pursue their music learning, whether it's at their school or at a local music store,” she said. “And for some students and children, it's the first time they've heard a violin or they've touched a trombone, and to watch their eyes just light up.”
The events are free.
