One of the nation's oldest animal welfare organizations, spcaLA, is facing a shortage of dog food. With a significant increase in the number of large-breed dogs entering the shelter, the organization is struggling to keep up.

"This past summer, the average weight of adult dogs in our care increased by 34%," said spcaLA President Madeline Bernstein. "Every day, we get more Huskies, Shepherds, and other large-breed dogs, causing our food supplies to deplete faster than ever. We need help to keep them well-nourished and healthy."
To address this urgent need, spcaLA is asking the community to donate.
"We get our pet food donated from the public, and so right now... we're really in need of canned dog food, kibble, dry dog food, and also kitten food, canned kitten food," Miriam Davenport, Vice President at spcaLA, told KNX News' Emily Valdez.
Anyone who would like to donate money to help spcaLA care for animals can do so online at spcala.com. The organization asks donations of dry or canned food to be dropped off at any spcaLA location during operating hours.
