An inmate was captured hours after his escape from a Sylmar lockup, authorities said Monday.
At around 9 p.m. Sunday, authorities discovered 33-year-old Angel Gaxiola was missing from the Holton Conservation Camp, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Local law enforcement was alerted of his escape and around 8:20 a.m. Monday, officers with the Upland Police Department took Gaxiola into custody.
Gaxiola was received from San Bernardino County in September 2023. He was sentenced to six years for second-degree robbery as a second striker, and has been a resident of the Holton camp since January.
His case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for consideration of escape charges, according to the CDCR.
Since 1977, 99% of all escapees have been apprehended, authorities added.
