Man arrested after stealing Alhambra police cruiser, leading officers on chase

A man was arrested early Tuesday morning after Alhambra police said he stole a police cruiser during a traffic stop and led officers on a high-speed chase.

KNX News’ Jon Baird reported that it started near the I-10 in Alhambra at around 12:30 a.m. Lt. Rodney Castillo with the police department told Baird that officers were in the middle of conducting a traffic stop.


“They see a guy jump into the driver's [seat of the cruiser] and take off with a police car,” he said.

A chase ensued and police told Fox 11 News the driver went up to 140 mph.

The pursuit ended in East Hollywood when the suspect got out of the car near North Oxford Ave. and Lemon Grove Ave., according to KTLA.

Officers caught the suspect with the help of a police dog. The man was taken to the hospital with a head injury.

The suspect has not been identified.
