
WHITTIER, Calif. (KNX) — An arrest has been made in connection with the brush fire that destroyed at least two homes Thursday during a hot and windy afternoon in Whittier.
Authorities announced Friday they arrested a man in his 50s who was found in the canyon with burns. The man, who is a Whittier resident, was arrested on suspicion of arson, according to NBC Los Angeles.

Authorities declined to identify the suspect.
The "Sycamore Fire" destroyed two homes and damaged a third as it burned through the 4800 block of Cinco View Drive, near Banyan Rim Drive.
The fire began around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, just north of Sycamore Park, quickly growing from two acres to four, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Fixed-wing aircraft and more than 200 firefighters were requested to battle the flames, which quickly engulfed one home and caused extensive damage to another next door, according to City News Service.
No injuries were reported.
The wildfire occurred during one of the hottest weeks of the year, with temperatures in Whittier hitting 82 degrees and winds gusting up to 10 miles per hour Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
A heat advisory remains in effect across the L.A. County coast, the San Gabriel Valley and San Fernando Valley, with highs between 85 and 90 degrees, through 6 p.m. Sunday.
