A man was arrested after police said he tried to steal a driverless taxi in downtown Los Angeles Saturday night.

The driverless taxi, called Waymo, was dropping off a passenger on Main Street when Vince Jones, 33, hopped in the driver’s seat and tried to put the car in drive, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The company said a Waymo representative, who can hear and see everything happening in the car, told Jones to get out. When Jones did not budge, the representative called the police.
Jones was charged with one count of attempted car theft.
California regulators recently approved Waymo to expand its service to parts of the Bay area and Los Angeles.
